Latest addition to Shulman’s first roster interesting on several levels
Adding some length with a history of hitting three-pointers may fit well in new system under first-year coach for Bears.
CONWAY, Ark. — New UCA coach John Shulman continued putting together his first team with a new player that’s intriguing in a lot of ways and not just because Diogo (DJ) Seixas is originally from Portugal.
He’s a 6-8, 235-pound guard/forward that’s transferring from San Jose State. He’s not a banger down low, but did show 37 percent on three-pointers at San Jose State. This is going to be an interesting addition to an already mix of talented players that can drive and shoot outside.
“DJ is one that we pursued heavily as soon as he became available,” said Shulman. “We knew his game from when he was coming out of high school.”
Seixas played internationally for Imortal Lizigas in 2023-23 and played in the 2022 FIBA U-18 and U-20 Euro Championships where he averaged 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 44 percent from three-point range in 2022. He also played in the 2019 FIBA U-16 European Championship Division B.
“The versatility that he has shown throughout the years during FIBA and college is something that was really attractive for us and our style of play,” Shulman said. “His skill set, size, and shooting ability fit right into what we are going to do on the floor. All while his attitude and high level character fit into our culture and the people we surround ourselves with.”
