UCA moves Martin to head coaching spot for beach volleyball
Bears move assistant ahead of fall schedule starting for beach volleyball.
CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas has promoted Erin Martin to the head coaching position for the beach volleyball program, according to an announcement by athletics director Matt Whiting.
Martin has served as the assistant beach volleyball coach for the past year.
“I am excited to promote Erin to head coach of our beach volleyball program, and appreciate her willingness to take on this important leadership role in our athletics department,” said Whiting in a release. “Erin’s work ethic, determination, and commitment to our student-athletes has been evident over the past year, and she is ready to take on this challenge.
“I look forward to working alongside Erin and watching her take our Beach program to new heights.”
Martin played at Boise State, Loyola Marymount and New Mexico.
“I would like to thank athletics director Matt Whiting for his confidence in selecting me as the next beach volleyball head coach at UCA,” said Martin. “The opportunity to make an impact on this group of women has been a huge goal and I can’t wait to get to work.
“It will be exciting stepping into the lead role this year after serving under coach John Newberry. His mentorship has prepared me to take on this huge responsibility to lead and develop our student-athletes. I am proud to be able to continue sharing my knowledge of the beach volleyball game with the Conway community.”
The Bears will start the limited fall schedule against Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 30 on the road in Monroe, La.
In late October, the Bears will travel to Huntsville, Ala. to take part in the 2023 AVCA Collegiate Beach Central Zone Qualifier. This is a tremendous opportunity for UCA to potentially qualify for the AVCA Pairs National championship a week later in Huntsville. This invitational allows UCA to compete against some great teams across the south like Georgia State, LSU, Tulane, UAB, North Alabama, South Carolina, and several other talented teams that UCA may not get to see in the spring season.
The final match in the fall will be a home tournament on Nov. 11 against Missouri State and Hendrix. This last event in the fall will allow the Bears to see how the fall season has gone and will allow UCA to face a cross-town opponent.
