Annual Reunion of ’76 Bears Highlights Hall of Fame Weekend
Team that started Bears’ winning tradition reaching national championship game in 1976’s reunion gets big weekend off and running.
CONWAY, Ark. — It will be a big weekend coming up for Central Arkansas. And no looking in the rearview mirror is allowed this weekend on Hall of Fame Weekend.
The 1976 Bears, who started the winning tradition at a clip of over 70 percent of all games, will set the tone Friday night with their annual reunion. The event gets under way at 6 p.m. on Friday evening at Mike’s Place in downtown Conway.
UCA coaches from all sports have been invited to attend, including new basketball coach John Shulman. The Bears have started practices and members from the ’76 Bears football team will be in attendance at their practice Saturday morning.
UCA will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 41-34 road loss to Abilene Christian last week. The Bears fell from No. 7 in the rankings to 13th while the Wildcats moved up one spot in front at No. 12.
They will play West Georgia who is coming in with a 1-4 record. Kickoff for the game is 4 p.m. on The Stripes at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.
The team will be tailgating west of the stadium starting at 2 p.m. and fans are invited to stop by. All former players and fans are invited to the tailgate.
