UCA women’s soccer falls 5-0 in road match at Oklahoma State
UCA saw its two-game win streak end as Oklahoma State scored five unanswered goals in a Sunday road loss.
Central Arkansas women’s soccer dropped a 5-0 decision at Oklahoma State on Sunday, snapping a two-game winning streak in Stillwater.
UCA came into the match feeling good after back-to-back wins but couldn’t solve a tough Big 12 opponent on the road.
The Bears didn’t back down early.
Over the opening 20 minutes UCA actually outshot the Cowgirls 4-2 and looked ready to steal momentum in a hostile environment.
Oklahoma State pulls away
That pressure faded fast once the home team found its footing.
Oklahoma State broke through in the 29th minute when Laudan Wilson scored off a Sonora De Fini assist to open the floodgates.
The goal seemed to wake the Cowgirls up.
Sherline King made it 2-0 in the 34th minute on a pass from Emmy Hedden and Emma Jensen, and Gracie Bindbeutel followed less than two minutes later off a feed from Lily Weiss.
Jensen got in on the scoring herself in the 39th minute, assisted by King, and Oklahoma State carried a commanding 4-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Bears settle in for the second half
With conference play just around the corner, both teams leaned on their benches after the break to give younger players some reps.
That shift actually worked in UCA’s favor, and the Bears did a better job keeping the Cowgirls out of dangerous areas.
Oklahoma State still found one more goal, though, when Addy Lang converted a penalty kick in the 66th minute after a video review.
That closed out the scoring at 5-0.
UCA used the final half hour to push forward more often, spending less time pinned in its own third.
UCA never found the back of the net but did manage two shots on frame, giving the Oklahoma State keeper a bit of work down the stretch.
In goal, Anna Kathryn Harrell made four saves in her 45 minutes of work and Hanna Hargrave added two more in her half.
The Bears finished the day with seven shots and three corner kicks compared to 25 shots and eight corners for the Cowgirls.
UCA drops to 3-4-1 on the season while Oklahoma State improves to 4-2-2.
Looking ahead to SEMO
UCA has one nonconference test left before UAC play begins, traveling to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to take on SEMO Sunday at 1 p.m.
It’s the last tune-up for the Bears before league games take over the schedule.
