UCA Bears guard Layne Taylor drives into the lane against Eastern Kentucky

CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas coach John Shulman might need to get used to Layne Taylor sitting beside him on the bench in games.

Apparently he’s going to be out for the remainder of the season as injuries are starting to pile up for the Bears.

“We’re looking for Layne and he’s over there in a sling right beside me,” Shulman said after a 68-55 loss to Lipscomb. “I get that and I understand that. But we rebounded and we regrouped and I was proud of them for that. You play the best team in the league, without now a bunch of guys you thought were going to be starters. And you still give yourself a chance. So what am I supposed to do, be mad at our guys? I’m not.”

The Bears are struggling through a 5-16 season. It’s probably not working out the way Shulman expected in his first season at UCA. Whatever he can salvage out of this season, however, is now going to have be done without his leading scorer.

UCA is in the Farris Center tonight against West Georgia in a game starting at 6:30 p.m. It’s National Puzzle Day for the Bears’ fans.
