UCA gets plenty of hits, but Austin Peay scores more runs to wrap up series
Bears jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one inning but saw the Governors score the next six runs

CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas out-hit the Austin Peay Governors on Sunday afternoon but could not match the run production in a 9-5 loss in the series finale at Bear Stadium.
The Bears jumped out to a 4-1 lead after one inning but saw the Governors score the next six runs. UCA got one back in the seventh but then left the bases loaded in the eighth. APSU added two more runs in the top of the ninth to set the final.
UCA got three hits from senior catcher Casey Shipley, and two each from center fielder Sam Reynolds, third baseman Bryce Cermenelli, right fielder Blaine French and designated hitter Preston Curtis. However, the Bears left 11 runners on base.
In the first, sophomore left fielder Zeb Allen led off with a double on the first pitch he saw. After moving to second on a ground out, Allen scored on Cermenelli’s single up the middle.
French drew a two-out walk and Curtis followed with a two-run double down the left-field line. Shipley added an RBI single to give the Bears an early 4-1 lead.
A four-run fourth inning put the Governors (18-7, 5-1) back in front. In the seventh, Reynolds led off with a double, went to third on a ground out and scored on Nathan Negre’s sacrifice fly.
UCA loaded the bases in the eighth on a single by pinch hitter Keon Moseni, a base hit by Shipley and a walk by Allen. But APSU reliever Kade Shatwell got out of the jam with a strikeout.
The Bears continue their eight-game homestand against ULM at 6 p.m. Tuesday and against Arkansas State at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
UCA will then host Eastern Kentucky next weekend in an ASUN series.
