UCA softball splits first day at home tournament
Bears opened home tournament with one win and one loss, showing strong pitching and timely hitting in Conway.
Central Arkansas softball opened its home event Friday with a split in the Michelle Short and Adam Brown Tournament in Conway.
UCA played two games on the first day of the event. The Bears earned a win in one matchup before falling in the second contest. It was a busy start to the weekend as the team competed in front of its home crowd.
The day began with strong pitching and steady defense. UCA worked out of early jams and kept the game close before the offense found its rhythm. Timely hits helped the Bears push runs across the plate.
In the first game, UCA’s lineup came through in key moments. The Bears used a mix of base hits and smart base running to build momentum. The pitching staff limited damage and kept the opponent from putting together big innings.
By the final out, UCA had secured the win to start tournament play on a positive note.
Strong start sets tone
The Bears showed patience at the plate. They drew walks and made solid contact. That approach helped them create scoring chances.
Pitchers for UCA attacked the strike zone and trusted the defense behind them. The infield made routine plays, and the outfield tracked down fly balls to prevent extra bases.
After celebrating the win, the Bears had little time to rest. Another game awaited later in the day as tournament action continued.
In the second matchup, UCA again battled from the first pitch. The Bears worked to keep pace as the opponent found early offense. Even so, UCA didn’t back down.
The lineup tried to answer with base runners and aggressive swings. The Bears put pressure on the defense and looked for openings to shift the momentum.
Battling through Game Two
As the innings moved along, UCA continued to compete. The Bears had chances but couldn’t fully close the gap. Small plays made a difference in a tight contest.
Pitching changes helped slow the opponent at times. UCA’s defense made several key outs to stay within reach.
Late in the game, the Bears attempted to rally. They brought runners on base and looked for a clutch hit to turn the tide. Despite the effort, the comeback fell short.
When the final out was recorded, UCA finished the day with one win and one loss.
The split result gave the Bears valuable experience as tournament play continues. Playing at home allowed UCA to showcase its growth and fight in front of supporters.
The Michelle Short and Adam Brown Tournament continues through the weekend. UCA will return to the field aiming to build on the lessons from opening day.
