CONWAY, Ark. – Sometimes its easy to see why a team won. Other times it’s not as easy. Central Arkansas’ 24-19 win against North Alabama falls into the first category.

The Bears forced five turnovers and didn’t commit any themselves and is one of the main reasons UCA improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 UAC plays.

Here are five stats that tell the story of the Bears’ five-point win at home:

5

That’s how many turnovers UCA’s defense forced against North Alabama. The Bears had two interceptions and three fumbles. Defensive end David Walker forced all three fumbles to set a new school record. He also had one fumble recovery. TD Williams had both interceptions, including one that sealed the win for UCA.

0

That’s how many turnovers UCA’s offense had against the Lions. Even the most casual football fan knows turning the ball over is a recipe for defeat. UCA winning the turnover battle 5-0 is a big reason the Bears won.

56

That’s how many rushing yards UCA had as a team. UCA boasted one of the best rushing attacks in FCS, but the Lions held them to a new season-low. A big reason is the 30 yards lost as a result of three sacks. ShunDerrick Powell, who was ranked in the top three of most FCS rushing categories, had just 70 rushing yards and no touchdowns.

10

That’s how many negative plays UCA’s defense forced against North Alabama. Walker, Jace Benesch and Deorious Cobbs each had three tackles for a loss and Tamaurian Wilson had one.

2

That’s how many third down conversions the Bears made in Saturday’s game against the Lions. UCA was 2-of-13 on third down conversions and didn’t attempt any fourth down conversions.
