CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas didn’t win Saturday afternoon by out-shooting its opponent.

The Sugar Bears won by controlling the game from the defensive end.

Lipscomb came out sharp, hitting four 3-pointers in the opening quarter and jumping ahead early at the Farris Center.

UCA struggled to find a rhythm offensively in the first 10 minutes, missing several open looks and shooting just 33 percent.

What stayed consistent was defensive effort. The Sugar Bears pressured the ball, rotated quickly, and forced Lipscomb to speed up.

Passing lanes closed. Ballhandlers were pushed toward the sidelines. Traps came with help already in place.

Even when Lipscomb scored, it rarely felt comfortable. Every possession took effort.

By the end of the first quarter, UCA still trailed, but the tone had already changed.

The Sugar Bears kept attacking defensively, waiting for the momentum to turn.

That turn came in the second quarter.

UCA forced turnover after turnover, turning defense into offense and creating separation.

By halftime, the Sugar Bears had built an 18-point lead, largely from pressure rather than shooting.

Pressure Creates Control

UCA entered the second half knowing Lipscomb would adjust, and the third quarter reflected that change.

The Bisons handled the ball better and slowed the pace, limiting mistakes compared to the first half.

UCA didn’t panic when shots stopped falling. The Sugar Bears stayed committed to rebounding and positioning.

Offense was harder to find. UCA shot just 17 percent in the third quarter.

Defense kept the margin intact. Help rotations stayed sharp, and recovery speed prevented clean looks.

Steals continued to pile up across the lineup, with multiple players contributing to the pressure.

Even when Lipscomb broke the press, possessions ended with contested shots late in the clock.

The Sugar Bears entered the fourth quarter still in control, despite the cold stretch offensively.

That control became separation early in the final period.

UCA scored on six of its first seven possessions in the fourth quarter.

Three straight Lipscomb turnovers led directly to points and pushed the lead to 25.

From there, the Sugar Bears managed the clock and limited risk.

UCA finished with 35 forced turnovers and 24 steals, numbers that reflected full-team effort.

The 60-47 final score showed a game decided by discipline and defense.

What the Win Shows

The Sugar Bears improved to 13-10 overall and 6-5 in ASUN play with the home victory.

The game reinforced that UCA can win without relying on offensive rhythm.

Defensive pressure created margin, protected cold shooting stretches, and dictated tempo.

UCA will stay home for a rescheduled matchup against North Alabama on Monday night.

If the Sugar Bears continue to defend with this level of consistency, they’ll remain difficult to beat at the Farris Center.
