UCA women’s golf climbs to third-place finish at Powercat Classic
The Bears climbed from seventh to third over three rounds at Colbert Hills, finishing behind only Kansas State and Cincinnati.
Central Arkansas spent two days in Manhattan, Kan., working its way up the leaderboard.
The women’s golf team wrapped up the Powercat Classic in third place.
Only two teams finished ahead. Host Kansas State won at even par, and Cincinnati grabbed second at 17 over.
UCA did a lot of its damage on the longer holes.
The Bears posted 162 pars and 32 birdies during the event.
Their 4.21 average on par 4s tied for second in the field.
On par 5s, they averaged 5.13. That tied for third.

Thorsteinsdottir leads the way
Sophomore Gudrun Thorsteinsdottir paced UCA at 8 over par. She tied for 13th.
Her middle round was the best of her week. She shot even par after opening at 4 over, then closed at 4 over again.
Sophomore Alethea Paige Gaccion and senior Nanami Hayakawa each came in at 10 over.
Gaccion stayed steady early with a pair of 2-over rounds before a 6-over finish. Hayakawa bounced back from a 5-over start with a 1-over second round, then posted 4 over.
Freshman Camila Negroni got better every time out. She went 6 over, then 4 over, then 1 over for an 11-over total.
Senior Maggie Huett rounded out the lineup at 12 over after cards of 3, 4 and 5 over.
Freshman Emma Leroy Fabry played as an independent. She also shot 11 over, rebounding from a 9-over opener with back-to-back 1-over rounds.
A steady climb up the board
The Bears sat seventh after the opening round and jumped three spots to fourth in round two.
One more move Tuesday locked up third.
The first two rounds came Monday. That’s 36 holes in one day, so somebody’s legs had to be tired.
Twelve teams and 70 golfers played in the stroke play event at Colbert Hills Golf Club.
Tarleton State was the only other UAC team in the field. It shot 41 over and placed seventh.
That gives UCA a leg up on a league rival, at least for this week.
Back to Kansas next week
The Bears won’t unpack for long.
They’re headed back to Kansas for the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational.
That event runs Oct. 5-6 at Lawrence Country Club.
