Ally Gaccion’s plan in Jonesboro wasn’t complicated. Go under par. Then do it twice more.

The conference noticed. On Thursday, it made her the UAC Golfer of the Week.

The Central Arkansas sophomore shot 7 under par at the Lady Red Wolves Classic. Nobody in the field beat that number.

Alethea Paige Gaccion opened with back-to-back rounds of 2 under. She closed with a 3 under, her best of the week.

The tournament ran Oct. 12-13 at Sage Meadows Golf Club in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

She now has two career medalist honors at UCA.

Sharing the top spot

There was one catch. She had company at the top.

Samford’s Gabi Nicastro and Arkansas State’s Mackenzie Cloutier also finished at 7 under. All three walked away as co-champions.

Gaccion piled up 35 pars and 14 birdies over the three rounds.

Only one golfer in the field made more birdies than she did.

She averaged 3.0 strokes on par 3s and 3.87 on par 4s. Par 5s were her best friend at 4.75.

Basically, the short holes didn’t hurt her and the long ones helped.

The Bears finished fourth as a team at 4 over par.

They ranked second in the field with 183 pars. Their 40 birdies tied for fifth.

Coach likes what she sees

Coach Summar Roachell called it “a much deserved recognition for an awesome week of golf for Ally.”

Not a bad review from the boss.

Roachell said Gaccion stayed focused and patient. She also said her sophomore stuck to the game plan from start to finish.

“She puts in so much time to her craft and I am happy to see that hard work pay off,” Roachell said.

She thinks there’s more coming, too. “Winning is hard, but this won’t be the last time we see her in the winner circle!” Roachell said.

“She keeps getting better and she has great joy while doing it.”

One more stop this fall

UCA’s turnaround is quick.

The team plays the Diamante Intercollegiate in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on Oct. 18-20.

It’s the last event of the fall for the Bears.

Gaccion gets to take a fresh conference award with her down the road.
