Taylor picks up ASUN honor after injury-shortened first season with UCA
Bears’ leading scorer with 17.4 average, which would have ranked fourth in ASUN had he played enough games

CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas guard Layne Taylor was named Tuesday to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman team.
Taylor, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound guard from Farmington, Ark., made the team despite missing the final 13 games of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Taylor was the Bears’ leading scorer on the season with a 17.4 pointer per game average, which would have ranked fourth in the ASUN had he played enough games to qualify.
He also had a team-high 64 three-pointers, which was ranked in the Top 10 in the league. Taylor scored in double figures in 19 of his 20 games, with a high of 29 points against Bellarmine.
Taylor also averaged 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals on the season, while shooting 33.7 percent from three-point range and 89.4 percent from the free-throw line.
The Bears won their ASUN Tournament opener on Sunday, beating Stetson 77-72, before losing to No. 1 seed Lipscomb on Monday night in Nashville.
