Taylor picks up ASUN weekly honor after pair of big games last week
Scoring nights of 25, 29 points what Bears waiting to see from freshman guard from Farmington in league games

CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas guard Layne Taylor was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Newcomer of the Week on Monday after two stellar outings last week.
Playing in his first two ASUN games, the freshman from Farmington (Ark.) High School averaged 28.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and made 10 three-pointers as the Bears went 1-1.
In a double-overtime loss to Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, Taylor scored a then career-high 27 points, including the Bears’ last 11 points of regulation to send the game to overtime. Taylor scored 25 of his 27 points after halftime.
In a 71-65 victory over Bellarmine on Saturday, Taylor upped his career high to 29 points, while adding five rebounds and three assists and nailing five more three-pointers.
Taylor is No. 2 in the ASUN in scoring, averaging 18.3 points per game. He is also first in three-pointers made per game at 3.5, and is third in steals (2.0) and seventh in assists (3.9).
The Bears hit the road this week for games at Stetson on Thursday in DeLand, Fla., and at Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday in Fort Myers, Fla.
