Bears Roll Over Governors: 5 Stats That Tell the Story
It doesn’t take a lot of numbers to tell the complete story of how Bears ran roughshod over Austin Peay.
CONWAY, Ark. – No. 7 Central Arkansas may not have recognized many Austin Peay players from last year’s team that ended the Bears’ season early. But it didn’t matter much.
The Bears (2-1) rolled to a 45-17 victory in their first home game and United Athletic Conference game of the season.
Here are five numbers that tell the story of how the Bears sent the Governors home with a loss:

That’s the number of sacks UCA’s defense tallied against Austin Peay. David Walker, Bradley Clark, Samuel Horton, Javeon Jones and Jabreal Woodall each had sack and contributed to the 15-of-26 for 159 yards and an interception performance by Austin Smith.
8
That’s the number of times UCA defenders tackled a Governor ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage. Austin Peay had 180 total rushing yards against the Bears, but averaged just 4.6 yards per carry.
309

28
That’s the total number of unanswered points the Bears scored in the second and third quarters, expanding their lead from 10-10 to 38-10. Hale and Powell scored each of their rushing touchdowns in that time span, too.
7.2
That’s number of yards per carry UCA averaged on Saturday night. Powell and Hale had wide running lanes opened up by their offensive line, which made their nights a whole lot easier.
