CONWAY, Ark. — The Nathan Brown era at Central Arkansas football will continue into 2026, as the university announced that Brown will return as head coach for the upcoming season.

Brown’s return marks the beginning of his ninth season leading the Bears.

The university also confirmed a targeted increase in support and investment for the football program, signaling a firm commitment to stability and competitive growth.

During his tenure, Brown has compiled a 46-44 overall record, including a 25-22 mark in conference play.

His teams reached the FCS Playoffs in 2019, won conference championships in 2019 and 2022, and finished as conference runner-up in 2023.

Brown has also emphasized academics and player development. Program leaders highlighted high graduation rates, classroom achievement, and leadership growth as central to the culture he has built.

The program has also produced two NFL Draft picks during Brown’s time as head coach. Robert Rochell and David Walker both moved on to the professional level, with Walker becoming the highest draft pick in school history.

Athletic director Matt Whiting said the university’s decision reflects an understanding of the changing landscape of college sports.

“The last two years have brought unprecedented change in college athletics, and especially in college football,” Whiting said. “In this new era, it takes increased investment and full alignment at every level of our athletic organization.

“On the football field, our goals are to compete for conference championships and playoff appearances. In order to do that, we must continue to elevate resources and invest in our program in ways that match our expectations.”

Whiting praised Brown for his connection to the university and the football program’s history.

“Coach Brown has deep and unmatched ties to the University of Central Arkansas and Central Arkansas Football,” Whiting said. “He has experienced success as a player, assistant coach, and as head coach of our football program, and he takes tremendous pride in representing the University of Central Arkansas.

“I have great confidence in his ability to lead our program with this increased investment and look forward to working alongside him to achieve our program goals and build upon the rich history of Central Arkansas football.”

The university also announced it will opt into the NCAA House Settlement structure beginning with the 2026-27 academic year.

The decision reflects UCA’s intent to participate in revenue-sharing arrangements and meet the standards emerging across Division I athletics.

Leaders noted that the school’s focus is on building long-term competitive stability. By committing to the settlement and elevating financial support, UCA plans to create a sustainable model for football success in the new era of college athletics.

The increased investment is designed to ensure the Bears can continue competing for championships while supporting athletes on and off the field.

Brown’s return, paired with the school’s expanded institutional support, positions UCA to build on its foundation heading into 2026.

With continuity on the staff and clarity on administrative direction, the Bears enter the offseason with a defined plan for progress.

As the 2026 season approaches, Brown’s role, the enhanced resources, and the program’s recent accomplishments present an opportunity for steady improvement.

The Bears will move forward with a coach who has shaped the modern era of UCA football and with leadership committed to what it sees as the next step for the program.
