Bears win ASUN title, secure top seed with Queens win

UCA clinched the ASUN regular-season championship with an 84-79 win over Queens to secure the No. 1 tournament seed.

Central Arkansas wrapped up its regular season in strong fashion Saturday night. The home crowd at the Farris Center watched the team defeat Queens 84-79 to secure the ASUN regular-season championship.

The victory meant more than just another tally in the win column. It locked up the No. 1 seed in the ASUN Tournament and capped off a steady run through conference play.

UCA knew the stakes coming in. A win would secure the top spot, and the players responded with focus from the opening tip.

The Bears built a lead in the first half by attacking the basket and getting to the free-throw line. They didn’t rush shots and stayed patient on offense.

UCA carried a 31-24 lead into halftime after closing the period with strong defense. The team controlled the pace and forced Queens to work for every point.

The Bears came out in the second half with the same energy. They shared the ball and found open looks around the floor.

UCA also protected the paint, limiting second-chance chances. That effort helped them stay ahead during key stretches.

The Bears never let the moment grow too big. They played within themselves and trusted their system.

Hunter powers UCA on Senior Day

UCA senior guard Camren Hunter delivered a big performance in his final home game. He scored 30 points and showed control on both ends of the floor.

The Bears leaned on Hunter when they needed a basket. He attacked off the dribble and knocked down free throws with calm confidence.

UCA got to the line often, and that made a difference. The team finished 23 of 26 from the stripe, a strong mark in a close game.

The Bears also received key help from Javion Guy-King, who added 18 points. He made timely shots that kept momentum on their side.

UCA saw Ty Robinson chip in 12 points. His energy and hustle added balance to the scoring effort.

The Bears had to answer a late push from Queens. A three-pointer in the final seconds trimmed the lead, but UCA held firm.

UCA stepped to the line again in the closing moments and sealed the outcome. Those final free throws secured the championship.

The Bears finished the regular season 20-11 overall and 15-3 in ASUN play. That record placed them alone at the top.

Top seed secured for ASUN Tournament

UCA now heads into the ASUN Tournament as the No. 1 seed. That position gives the team a favorable path in Jacksonville next week.

The Bears will play their first tournament game on Friday, March 6. The higher seed also provides extra rest before stepping back on the court.

UCA earned this spot with steady play throughout conference action. They protected home court and found ways to win on the road.

The Bears showed growth as the season moved along. They responded well after losses and stayed connected as a group.

UCA now shifts its focus to postseason goals. Winning the regular-season title was important, but the work isn’t done.

The Bears will carry some momentum into March.
