Rebels shut out Sugar Bears at Ragin’ Cajun Invitational
Big fourth inning saw the Rebels jump out ahead and UCA wasn’t catching up at tournament’s second day

LAFAYETTE, La. — Central Arkansas put up an early fight against Ole Miss on day two of the Ragin’ Cajun Invitational, but a big fourth inning saw the Rebels jump out ahead. UCA wasn’t catching up in an 11-0 loss in five innings.
The Bears fall to 2-6 on the year with the loss. Freshman Madge Layfield made her first appearance in Purple and Gray, pitching one inning and allowing just two hits. Renee Christian, Kaitlyn Graham and Mya January recorded hits against the SEC foe.
Ole Miss tallied the first run in the bottom of the first, finding a baserunner with two outs and moving her around to score on an error.
The Bears put a runner on in the top of the second in an effort to answer, but were unable to move Graham around from first base. In the third inning, Christian got on base with a single. But after moving to second on a stolen base, the sophomore Bear couldn’t get any farther.
UCA gave up two more runs in the third, allowing three-straight baserunners and a sacrifice fly to push the deficit to three.
After being unable to answer, the Bears went back to the field. And in the bottom of the fourth, the bottom opened up, and the Rebels found their groove, scoring eight unanswered.
The Bears have one more game at the Ragin’ Cajun Invitational, playing host Louisiana Lafayette on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
