FORT MYERS, Fla. – Central Arkansas volleyball’s undefeated streak in conference play came to end Sunday afternoon in the Sunshine state.

Florida Gulf Coast University won 3-1 Sunday, dropping the Bears’ record to 10-9 overall and 7-1 in conference play and sits behind FGCU, who is at 8-1 in ASUN.

UCA found itself trailing 2-0 early after FGCU won the first set 25-20 and the second set 25-18. The Bears dominated the third set to avoid the loss, 25-11. But FGCU managed to bounce back and win the fourth set, 25-23, and the match.

Allison Holloway led Central Arkansas with an impressive performance, notching 11 kills and a .667 hitting percentage, while Laci Bohannan added 13 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Regan Harp contributed 8 kills, and Caylan Koons distributed 39 assists while adding 4 digs.

One bit of good news for UCA was junior libero Alexis McDaniel being named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week. Over nine sets last week, the junior logged 49 digs, averaging over five per set. She led the Sugar Bears in both matches, recording 25 against Stetson and 24 against FGCU.

The libero leads Central Arkansas in digs this season, racking up 305 over 70 sets this season, ranking fifth in the ASUN. She has also contributed 71 assists and 14 service aces this season

The Bears will have a chance to bounce back this week with a pair of home ASUN games. The Bears will host Queens on Friday at 6 p.m. and then host West Georgia on Sunday at 1 p.m.
