UCA’s Chambers named UAC top offensive player after big game
Sophomore running back Landen Chambers earns UAC Offensive Player of the Week after career-best 184 yards, three TDs
CONWAY, Ark. — Sophomore running back Landen Chambers of Central Arkansas delivered a standout performance in the Bears’ road win over North Alabama, earning UAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday.
Chambers carried the ball 24 times for a career-best 184 yards, averaging 7.7 yards per carry, and reached the end zone three times in that contest.
That effort marked his fourth consecutive 100-yard game, and the total was the third-highest single-game rushing mark in the conference this season.
“It was a great effort by our offensive line and my teammates,” Chambers said. “They opened holes, and I just tried to hit them and extend the run.”
Over the season, Chambers is now the team’s leading rusher with 743 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 106 yards per game. Nationally, he ranks fifth in total rushing yards, ninth in rushing yards per game, and remains among the top 20 in rushing touchdowns.
“He’s been consistent all year, and tonight he showed what kind of talent he really is,” said UCA coach Nathan Brown.
This marks the third weekly award won by a Bear this season, complementing prior honors. Earlier, quarterback Luther Richesson received UAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition.
Four-game streak and national standing
Chambers’ streak of four straight 100-yard rushing games underscores his reliability in the backfield. His 184-yard output against UNA not only served as a personal best but also reinforced his status among FCS running backs.
The Bears’ ground game has leaned heavily on Chambers, and that workload has translated into wins. According to his UCA roster bio, as a freshman he played eight games, rushing for 176 yards and scoring one touchdown. His development this season reflects a significant leap in production.
Complementing Chambers is the offensive line, which coaching staff often credits for controlling the line of scrimmage. Run game coordinator and offensive line coach Gunnar Boykin has been vocal about the group’s consistency and growth during the first half of the season.
While Chambers has drawn headlines, UCA’s defense and passing attack have also contributed. Last year, standout defensive lineman David Walker became the first Bear drafted into the NFL since 2016, raising the program’s national profile.
Looking ahead: sustaining momentum
With this recognition, the challenges for Chambers and UCA intensify. Opponents will likely game-plan to limit his touches or stack the box against him. The Bears must continue to diversify the offense and protect their star back.
If he sustains his current pace, Chambers could be in contention for postseason honors in the United Athletic Conference and possibly national recognition. In 2024, former UCA back ShunDerrick Powell was named national Offensive Player of the Week for a similar performance.
UCA will next take on a key conference opponent as the Bears aim to extend their winning streak. Success will hinge not only on Chambers’ running ability but on maintaining balance, discipline, and consistency across all phases of play.
