UCA Can’t Look Past Winless Utah Tech This Afternoon
Bears face Trailblazers, who haven’t won a game this year after a long road trip to Utah on Saturday afternoon
ST. GEORGE, Utah — Central Arkansas goes on the road to face the Utah Tech Trailblazers for the first time Saturday at 3 p.m. from Greater Zion Stadium.
The No. 9/11 Bears (6-2, 3-1) will try to extend their two-game winning streak against the winless Trailblazers (0-9, 0-5) in their second trip to the state of Utah in as many seasons. UCA beat Southern Utah 29-27 last season in Cedar City, Utah, approximately 50 miles north of St. George.
The Bears are coming off a 24-19 victory over North Alabama last Saturday on Homecoming weekend at First Security Field at Estes Stadium. UCA used a dominating defensive effort, featuring five forced turnovers and a unit that held UNA to 82 rushing yards, had 10 tackles for loss and three sacks.
On the season, UCA’s defense is allowing just 115 yards on the ground per game. Utah Tech puts up 97.9 rushing yards per game, and just 280.2 total yards of offense an outing.
The Trailblazers, who have lost by a single score in their past two games against Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky, allow 491 yards of offense a game, which is even more than UCA’s prolific offense averages (453.6).
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and on The Bear 91.3 in Conway and The Point 94.1
UCA features a running back duo of seniors Darius Hale and ShunDerrick Powell who have combined for 6,712 rushing yards and 78 rushing touchdowns over their careers. The Bears also have a 10,000-yard quarterback in senior Will McElvain, who has a combined 10,822 yards in his Northern Iowa and UCA career.
The Bears have four United Athletic Conference (UAC) games remaining, with three on the road and one at home in central Arkansas.
